There are many advantages to joining the IOM Family History Society if you have a Manx family to research. Even if you are experienced in genealogical research in other countries our administrative areas, laws and dates of records vary.
We have our own library which is now situated within the iMuseum, Manx Museum, Kingswood Grove, Douglas where there is someone to help during all opening hours. We publish a quarterly journal in which interests and Can You Help? pages bring responses from others who may have the knowledge you are seeking. There are articles which may help you understand the families, culture and customs of the island.
We hold monthly meetings which introduce a range of speakers, where you can meet others interested in genealogy. Members can write to our email with specific queries. We are only a small group of volunteers but we could look up entries at our library or go to the Manx Museum or Registry if you can allow the time for us to organise it. However we cannot research a whole family.
There are two memberships available. A digital membership will give you the Journal as soon as it is published alongside access to the members area of the website. For those who prefer a paper journal to be posted out, a regular membership will still give you access to the members area of the website.
For the Isle of Man UK and British Isles it will be £14.
Membership runs from January 1st to 31st December each year. Unfortunately we are not able to accept payment by credit card, but we can accept Bank Transfers by prior arrangement – you will need to complete, sign and mail or scan the application form regardless.
To join, just complete a membership form. A MS Word version is also available.
